Hot new direct conversion receiver kit for the 40 meter band, features bandspread tuning and 1uV sensitivity. Listen in to CW on the bottom part of the band or SSB near the top. Stable design features SA602 and a pair of LM386 chips, giving it enough power to drive either low impedance headphones or a small speaker (either 4 ohm or 8 ohm).
Order RCVR1 at $29.95

RCVR2 at $29.95 For 30 meter band and WWV time at 10MHz.
RCVR3 at $29.95 For the 20 meter band.
This new kit features a unique 3 pot tuning system that lets you set upper and lower limits for the main tuning pot - dial right in to whatever slice of the band suits your needs. We used a Clapp Oscillator configuration with two FETs and a bipolar output transistor for excellent stability. While it isn't quite as solid as a crystal design, it is tuneable across the entire 40 meter band and it is far more economical than a PLL design - not to mention it has continuously variable tuning rather than "steps". It also has a place for an optional RIT section that is adjustable and can be used for either ultra-fine tuning or traditional RIT. Order the new VFO-7MHz or VFO-3MHz at $19.95.
PLL-SFM Transmitter Kit at $79.95
Like the SFM-3, this one has rock-solid Phase-Locked-Loop (PLL) tuning, the NJM2035 stereo generator, buffering and an RF amplifier stage on the output. It is probably the most economical PLL-tuned stereo FM transmitter on the market - long on performance but without some of the "bells and whistles" like the LCD display on the SFM-3 above. We've had this kit out a while now, and it was the basis for designing the RF board in the new kit above.
PLL-SFM3 TRANSMITTER KIT at $129.95
This two-board set has all the features - PLL tuning, LCD display, eeprom memory ( no more re-tuning after power has been disconnected), "telephone dial" type keypad tuning, and 5K steps for fine-tuning. In addition, we have added an "auto-repeat" function to the fine tuning keys. This latest kit has all the control functions on a board designed to become the front panel of an enclosure (Philmore no. PB-170B), the second board has all the RF circuitry. The RF board uses the NJM2035 for a stereo generator, buffered tuning from the PLL for quiet performance and an RF amplifier stage on the output. Use this one to transmit around the house and yard from any audio source that has line level signals available (Sound cards, MP3 players, CD players, Tape Decks etc) We are now in production and shipping.

New PLL-VFO EXPERIMENTER PLATFORM at $119.95
This one is another two-board set. The bottom board (VFO-EXP) starts with MC145170 PLL chip and its support components (including loop filter), then has an area to build a Colpitts Oscillator and another area for a CMOS oscillator using either CD4046 or HC4046. The kit includes 1 HC4046, an MV104 and a selection of toroid cores to get you started. Remaining small parts required (but not included) are all cheap transistors and common values of 1/4w resistors and mono caps determined by your choice of operating band(s). A prototyping area has room to build a receiver or RF amplifier circuit to complete the project of your choice. Useful anywhere between the AM broadcst band (starting at 440KHz) and 185MHz (above the 2 Meter ham band). Schematics include component values for various ranges, among them ham bands at 80 Meter, 20, 10, 6 and 2 Meters. Build your own CW, AM or FM transmitter or receiver...
The top board is the PLL-CB57 controller described below, its features include "lock indicator" signal, keypad tuning, eeprom memory to save tuning and IF info when power is off, LCD readout, 1K tuning steps below 65 MHz (5K steps 65MHz and above), user tuneable offset above or below to match the user selected IF frequency in receivers, and an auto-repeat function to allow scrolling with the fine-tune keys.
Bottom View New PLL-CB57 Controller Board for MC145170
This is the same controller board we use in the new PLL-SFM3 and VFO-EXP kits just above. It does not include the MC145170 PLL chip, but it does have a host of features and it can be retro-fitted to our existing PLL-SFM and PLL-EXP1 kits or it can be incorporated into your own design. Features include an LCD display, 1K tuning steps below 65MHz (5K steps from 65MHz-185MHz), our "telephone dial" type tuning, auto-repeat scanning for up/down fine tune buttons, a user programmable offset to match the IF in receiver circuits, switching between "transmit" and "receive" modes of operation, and an eeprom memory to retain both the last-tuned frequency and the offset (if used) when power is completely removed. Can be used with VCO circuits between 450KHz and 185 MHz depending on your design. Call for pricing if you want any of these three boards separately.

PLL-EXP
These packages make Phase-Locked-Loop tuning as easy as dialing a telephone - Each experimenter package has a serial PLL chip, reference crystal and other small support components), keypad tuning area and prototyping area to build your own Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) and rf amplifier. Several pages of schematics included give suggested designs for various oscillators and rf amplifier designs. Although not "complete" kits, these packages are designed to provide a versatile base from which the builder can go on to construct any one of several PLL based circuits such as a VFO, AM or FM transmitter or an RF Signal Generator for the test bench.
PLL-EXP1-1K $34.95 Uses MC145170, 1K tuning steps to 65.5 MHz
PLL-EXP1 $34.95 Uses MC145170, 10K tuning steps to 185MHz

AFFORDABLE WHITE LEDS These are T1 3/4 with a clear lens and they are really bright. They require 3.3 to 3.4V to turn on, and you don't want to look straight at them when they are on. Available for $2.00 each in small quantities, cheaper by the 100... We also have bright blue LEDs at the same price.

DEPP in Depth Volume 2, Philmore/Datak part number 79-1005 at $9.95 each.
I wrote this book with a "hands on" approach for the novice builder- it contains dry transfer patterns for both top and bottom of the circuit boards for nine projects in addition to a brief "hands-on", hobby oriented introduction to basic electronic theories. Each project includes instructions, schematic, top and bottom view board drawings and an explanation of how the circuit operates. Each project was chosen to be both fun and useful, circuits include a basic power supply, a couple of audio amplifiers, an FM transmitter and some basic do-it-yourself test equipment.
